A Colorado Winter
For those of us who spend most of our time in this beautiful state
cooped up in an office, Fielder takes us on yet another journey through the
magnificent backcountry--this time in the dead of winter. But John's
photos--as in all of his pieces--reflect more than what mother nature has to
offer. They are equally as much a reflection of his experience in capturing an
essence lacking in so many expensive "coffee" table books. It is apparent that
the photos were meticulously chosen and are a labor of love. If you, like
myself, don't get "out there" as much as you would like, A Colorado Winter is
a spectacular way to immerse yourself in another world. You will not be
disappointed.
A Colorado Atlas & Gazetteer
You'll find everything from
mountain passes and 14ers (14,000 foot peaks) to public lands, river trips,
wild trout waters, Gold Medal Streams and much more in this remarkably
detailed Atlas. It's set up with a sensible dual scale, with the Interstate 25
corridor and everything west of it mapped at 1:160,000 (1" to 2.5 miles). The
more wide-open eastern third of the state is shown at 1:320,000 (1"; to 5
miles). This Atlas is a huge favorite among Coloradans' and visitors alike,
thanks to its unequaled back road detail. The maps show and identify primary
and secondary forest routes, grassland routes and forest trails, so you can
head deep into Colorado's majestic mountains and forests and know exactly
where you are every inch of the way. A mosaic of all the maps would measure 8½
feet wide by 9 feet high.
Creme De Colorado Cookbook
If we know you and you're married, we've probably sent you a copy of
this book. It's a great wedding present--because it offers so many easy, yet
creative and satisfying recipes. It's the best Junior League cookbook that
this "food enthusiast" has seen--even better than the other Junior League of
Denver offerings. My personal favorites are the Szechwan Cashew Chicken, the
Marinated Chicken Breasts in Pepper Sauce and the Angel Hair with Basil and
Crab. I would note that the book is light on seafood recipes (it's from
land-locked Colorado--duh!), but more than makes up for it with excellent
poultry, pasta and salad offerings.
